The Carved Cube 🧊
Reading Pavilion
For my final year thesis project, I conceptualized an innovative Environmental Interpretation Center designed to serve as a vital nexus between urban dwellers and the natural world. This ambitious project aimed to address the growing disconnect between city residents and their surrounding ecosystems while promoting environmental awareness and conservation efforts.

Project Brief
Using three-dimensional shapes as a foundation for design fundamentals, this project explores the relationships between voids, dislocation, and massing. It emphasizes the transition from two-dimensional to three-dimensional forms while conceptualizing a functional space for reading activities. The design aims to create a balanced interplay between form and function, with the focus on how voids and massing contribute to the spatial experience.
The project proposes a reading pavilion on the CEPT campus, designed as an annex structure for students, taking inspiration from the existing campus building techniques. This pavilion is meant to serve as a serene and functional space, designed specifically for reading. By adhering to the construction principles of CEPT, the pavilion harmonizes with the campus while offering a fresh space for contemplation and study.
How might we create a 5x5x5-meter reading pavilion that offers a diverse range of reading experiences—such as isolated study and group study—while focusing on natural light and human-centered design?
